IRON & OAK
A carpenter cutting wood in the workshop
Services

Six things. Done extraordinarily well.

A focused list of carpentry services — every one drawn, joined, sanded, and finished in our Hudson Valley shop.

Custom Carpentry

From a single floating mantel to a full library wall, every piece is drawn, milled, and finished in our shop. We work in white oak, walnut, cherry, ash, and reclaimed timber — joined with hand-cut dovetails, mortise & tenon, and dowel joinery that will outlast trends.

Built-Ins & Shelving

Built-ins should feel original to the house. We design around your sight lines, baseboards, and crown — scribing every panel by hand so seams disappear into the wall. Every drawer runs on Blum soft-close hardware; every back panel is finished oak, not pegboard.

Finish Carpentry — Crown · Wainscot · Casing

Finish Carpentry

Finish work is the difference between a builder house and a forever home. We hand-cope every inside corner, return every moulding, and sand to 220 before the first coat goes on. No caulk hiding crooked cuts.

Cabinetry — Inset · Beaded · Slab

Cabinetry

We build cabinetry the way it was built in 1910 — full plywood backs, dadoed shelves, inset doors with brass butt hinges and 1/16″ reveals. Kitchen, mudroom, bath, pantry. No flat-pack, no Euro 32mm boxes.

Doors, Trim & Moulding

We hang true 1¾″ stile-and-rail doors on solid brass hinges and mill matching casing in-house. If you’re restoring a 1890s Queen Anne or commissioning new Shaker work — the profiles will be right.

Wood Repair & Restoration

We repair newel posts, replace damaged stair treads, splice in matching grain on antique tables, and re-finish hand-rails. Where original wood can be saved, we save it.

Our Process

From first coffee to final reveal.

01

Conversation

A walk-through of the room, a coffee, a notebook. We listen for how you actually live before we draw a line.

02

Drawings

Hand-sketched elevations, then scaled CAD with every reveal called out. You approve before lumber is ordered.

03

Shop Build

Cut, joined, sanded, and dry-fit in our shop. We finish 80% of the work where the dust belongs.

04

Install

On-site in clean canvas drop cloths. Scribed to your walls, set with hand-driven brads, no nail holes.

05

Walk-Through

We walk every reveal, every drawer pull, every finish edge with you. If it isn’t right, it doesn’t leave.
